Why is it the more “informed” we try to become on the world we live in the more upset we seem to become?
I like to keep up with our planet’s happenings but the more I read and listen the more frustrated I become with this world.
A lack of empathy. A lack of humanity. A lack of sense. A lack of understanding.
How many times do you feel like reading the word “lack”?
Sometimes it drives me a little mad. Not a fit of psychotic rage. Just an extreme level of annoyance.
I just want to disconnect. Become oblivious to the happenings around the world and go about my life.
Adopt an IDGAF mentality towards news and media outlets. A life of reading just the sports section in a newspaper sounds mighty fine these days. (I started writing this when sports were still being played….thanks COVID)
So I ask,
At what point do we stop paying attention to the news and media in an attempt to live a more happy and stress free life?
And is that even possible?
You don’t have to be an Ivy League grad to understand that the majority of news media outlets are trying to piss us off. Aggressive controversial click-baity headlines.
It’s both sides. Democrat left. Republican right. CNN left and FOX NEWS right, and then everyone else in between.
Welcome to the Age of Rage.
Everyone is mad about something. Myself included. We’ve watched news, read a news article, seen a video on Instagram or Facebook or some other outlet. I think maybe we’ve all been upset about something stemming from media coverage.
It’s all planned. Anger and rage get a greater human interaction when compared to happiness and peace in the scope of media reporting. It also makes psychological sense.
Let’s say you post a photo of yourself or loved ones to social media. This photo has gotten two “comments”.
Comment #1 : “You look great!”
Comment #2: “What a dumb fucking hat.”
Now if you were to respond which comment would you respond to first? Odds are the second comment.
Essentially this is the same way the news and media outlets operate. Their job is to get reads, views, reactions, generate some type of response. While there are many good things happening throughout the world, media outlets understand that these “good” stories won’t generate the kind of numbers and reactions that articles with headlines such as ” Democrats want all the abortion” or “Republicans want all the guns” will.
Yadda yadda yadda. It’s business. Clicks, views, reads, reactions. Dollar bills. Cha-ching.
If “The News” were a business that you could physically visit like a department store, would you? Walk the aisles and spend that hard earned cash?
Not a fucking chance.
So why do we allow this shitty Circuit City-esque “business” to occupy so much of our day to day life?
And how do we stop it?
